Extension of Tolled Road Network in Germany

On 1st July 2018, the tolled road network within Germany increased from 15,000km to around 52,000km, impacting the toll payments of vehicles with a total weight of 7.5 tonnes and above. The new regulation applies to all federal roads in the German territory (including towns).

Calculation and Tariffs: How Much Does it Cost?

The cost of the toll is still calculated from the distance travelled, the pollutant class of the vehicle and the number of axles. Changes in the tariffs are not planned, but additional costs are incurred by extra toll routes.

New Booking Possibilities: On-Board, in the App, on the Web

The On-Board Unit (OBU) : The automatic booking procedure via the On-board unit (OBU) built into the truck, transmits journey and vehicle information to Toll Collect, enabling the correct tolls to be calculated. The billing function is easy and convenient via the Shell Card. To use this option, you must be registered to Toll Collect. We will be happy to advise you.

The New Toll Collect App : This allows you to book routes from anywhere using your smartphone or tablet. The app is free and available for Android, iOS and Windows Phone. To use this option, you must be registered to Toll Collect.

On stationary PCs : You can use the online booking. This will trigger the previous Internet booking. Even customers who are not registered with toll collect can book routes here. This goes with every Internet-enabled device.

Toll Collect Terminals

You can manually book journeys at any of the 1,100 new terminals

Can be found through Germany, for example at rest stops, garages and/or large petrol stations.

How is The Toll Amount Calculated (for vehicles without OBUs)?

Newly introduced control columns will monitor the tolls on federal roads from 1st July 2018. They are blue, 4 meters in height and function like the control bridges on highways. These will check whether a vehicle is subject to paying the toll and if it is, the data will be transmitted to the control centre. In the case of suspicion of non-payment/false payment, the data will be forwarded to the control centre.

Charges and Fines for Toll Violations

In case of toll violations, the fee for the distance travelled will be charged. If this cannot be determined, flat-rate tolls will be charged for a distance of 500 kilometres. Fines are also possible, where sums of up to 20,000 euros can be applied.

More information on this extension can be found on the Toll Collect website.
